October/November Adventure Bible School Update

As I approach the two-month mark of my time in New Zealand, I am well overdue for an update. These past 6 weeks I’ve been involved in running our first Adventure Bible School (ABS).

Upon my arrival at Capernwray, I was promptly “chucked off the deep end” as my Kiwis mates would put it. Needless to say, working at ABS has been a challenging yet life-giving opportunity.

My role on the program involves leading morning exercises with the students, organizing gear & food, and assisting with ABL & outdoor activities. I am also involved in student mentorship: leading debriefs, small groups & student discipleship.

We have 15 students (ages 18-23) participating in the program. Most of the students are international — coming from North America, Germany, Austria as well as one local student from New Zealand.

It has been neat to watch the students grow close to each other in community as well as experience the growth in their faith through the lectures and small group discussions.

Outdoor activities and student trips have been exhausting but rewarding. Some of the highlights from this past month with the students included caving, kayaking, cycling, climbing and tramping (the Kiwi/Aussie word for hiking).

Prayer Requests

Please keep the students in your prayers as they finish the program. Pray for those who will be traveling home at the end of this week, as well as for the others staying on for the longer term Bible School. Pray that they would continue to seek Christ and be salt and light here in New Zealand and in their home communities!

Please keep the Capernwray leadership in your prayers as we search for new program staff. Pray for God’s providence in bringing the right people to these roles.

For me personally, pray that I would continue to adjust into this role — that God would direct my steps and that I would be motivated by his joy. Also pray for balance between work & rest.

Praise Report

I count myself blessed to have connected with an amazing local church with a thriving young adult group. I am beyond thankful for the body at Mardon Rd as well as hospitable people who have encouraged and basically adopted me into their NZ families. Big shoutout to the Bennetts & Schreibers for making me feel at home here during these first two months.

A final word to my international family in the States, Germany, Austria, and scattered throughout the world: Thank you all for your prayers and support. Postcards and mail can be sent to to the address below and I will happily write back!

I am so appreciative of everyone who has called, texted, and voice messaged me in the past weeks. If you have personal prayer requests please send them my way and I would be happy to pray for you.

Keep pressing on unto Christ!

Hannah
